PLASTIC REFLECTIC
Interactive mirror reflecting you in real pieces of ocean plastic.
Plastic Reflectic is an interactive kinetic installation that allows the spectator reflect on the concept of the growing plastic problem in our oceans.
These plastics move from human waste into nature’s food chain and slowly become entangled with our muscle and fat tissues, gradually turning humanity into plastic. The installation reflects its audience in plastic pixels made from ocean plastics from around the world. The interaction with the installation empowers the spectator with the idea that their movement at that moment can influence the ever-growing plastic problem in the future
The work feels both organic and artificial, raising questions about how much our actions still have an impact on the widening gap between humanity and nature, and whether the gap is closing in a way that we may not prefer.
Plastic Reflectic is a standalone installation designed to inspire, educate, and provoke thought and interaction. It is built using 601 pieces of plastic sourced from all the world's oceans. The pixel grid consists of 601 waterproof engines under the bio-based water, which are controlled by motion sensors that capture the movement and outline of its spectators.
