Hey, we need your help! If you love working at the unique intersection of digital art, science, and sustainable engineering, Woven Studio might be the perfect place for you to explore and experiment.

We’re offering an internship where you’ll get hands-on experience creating interactive artworks that address today’s most pressing issues. You’ll work with data derived from living trees, transform visitors into ocean plastic, and make rainforests disappear before their eyes.

At Woven Studio, led by Thijs Biersteker, we produce eco-awareness installations exhibited in museums worldwide—from Climate COP summits to top cultural institutions—all designed to spark crucial conversations about our planet’s future.

We provide a great work environment, financial compensation, good coffee, shared lunches, occasional travel oppertunities and Thomas’ mediocre latte art.

You don’t need to know everything—really, you don’t. We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds, including art, engineering, material science, architecture, coding, and even advertising (as long as you bring practical skills!). You’ll learn from us, and we’ll learn from you.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Is passionate about making a positive impact on the world

  • Is hands-on and enjoys working with art, but doesn’t necessarily have to be an artist (engineers, coders, furniture makers, and graphic designers are all welcome)

  • Is eager to learn and understands circular and sustainable materials.

  • Is available for at least 4 months (or more)

  • Is currently a student at a university, school, or part of the Erasmus scholarship program.

You’ll collaborate closely with Thijs Biersteker and the entire team (please note: we do not guide graduation projects). The internship requires a minimum commitment of 32 hours per week.

Our Studio
We’re based in Maakgemeenschap De Hoop in Zaandam—just 10 minutes from Amsterdam Central Station or Sloterdijk. Our workday starts at 9:15 AM and usually runs until around 5 or 6 PM.

Our studio is located in a transformed old paper factory, now a vibrant community of artist ateliers. Spanning 190m² and situated by the water, it offers an inspiring and creative workspace. Plus, we have our own in-house coffee roaster and enjoy freshly made salads every Tuesday!
